Scott’s a star cadet!

COLERAINE cadet Scott Curry has been named ‘Best One Star Cadet’ at an awards ceremony.

Local Cadets have been celebrating as they reviewed a year packed with achievements – and were presented with a constellation of awards.

The Star award scheme marks progress on the Cadet movement’s ladder of success, with increasingly challenging levels of Cadet Star Training taking in subjects such as shooting, fieldcraft, map and compass, drill, community work and expeditions.

Each Star award is an important landmark for aspiring teens and this month some of the county’s most focused and successful Star-holding Cadets received additional recognition for year-round achievement.

Recognising success in the Awards, together with recognition of success in a range of competitions, Major Sam Donnell, Officer Commanding B Company, said, “The lessons that these young people are learning about hard work and commitment will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives – and right now they are enjoying the boost of confidence that comes through earning recognition. Their families and schools can be as proud of them as are their Cadet units.”
