Second armed robbery at Maghera filling station in matter of weeks

Inspector Sam Shearer said, “Police received a report that two men armed with suspected firearms entered the service station at around 9.40pm on Thursday evening and threatened staff members.

“They took a sum of money and cigarettes then left the scene in a blue coloured Suzuki Swift car which was waiting outside with a third man inside. A car matching this description was later found on fire at Airfield Road near Toomebridge.

“Officers carried out a search of a house in north Belfast in the early hours of this morning where the 47 year old man was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery. The man remains in custody at this time helping with enquiries.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information which may assist police with our enquiries to contact officers at Magherafelt on 101. Information can also be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
