Second fire incident at property treated as suspicious

Shortly after 10.00am, Police received a report that a car which was parked outside a property had been set on fire. A plastic tank was also set on fire. The heat from this melted the PVC on a front window and door and also the downpipes of the property.

Insp. Daniel Walsh said: “Police are treating this fire as suspicious at this time. I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has information to contact Police at Cookstown on the non-emergency number 101.”

It is understood that this in the second fire related incident at the property on the Legnacash Road, police were also called to an incident of arson on October 30.

UUP Councillor for Mid Ulster, Mark Glasgow condemned the incidents saying: “The people who are carrying out these attacks I would demand that they stop at once. A home place that has been the home of many generations of a family is been destroyed, it’s uncalled for and must stop immediately.

“I would call on the PSNI to step up their patrols in the countryside to ensure that the residents of Drum Manor are kept safe and that the people who have carried out these attacks are brought before the justice system.”
