The award is presented to schools who take part in the internationally recognised Eco-Schools programme and who meet rigorous criteria demonstrating environmental action in both school and the local community.

The green flag recognises excellence in environmental activity.

Hezlett has been working on projects such as litter and waste, energy, wsater, travel, healthy living, biodiversity, school grounds and global issues.

The initiative was co-ordinated by Mrs Karen Gilpin, the vice-principal and the school’s eco-committee.

The award is the result of a team effort from pupils, staff, parents, outside agencies and volunteers.

Hezlett is very grateful to everyone who have helped in this great achievement and look forward to sustaining and developing further initiatives.

The school held a special assembly to celebrate the achievement.
