Second novel in fantasy trilogy for Carrick-born author

Debbie ‘D.J.’ McCune, who was born in Belfast and grew up in the Victoria area of Carrick, enjoyed strong sales of her first book Death and Co last year.

Her follow up, The Mortal Knife, was launched last week by London-based publisher Hot Key Books.

Death & Co follows Adam, a Luman, whose job it is to escort the dead to the afterlife. It’s the family business that his older brothers relish, but Adam just wants to be a normal teenage boy – one who likes girls, hates the Head and has a pile of homework to get through.

The Mortal Knife continues Adam’s story as he faces a new menace to his family and freedom. After breaking Luman law to prevent a terrorist attack in London, Adam is looking forward to getting back to school and normality.

Unfortunately Fate is standing in his way and she goes by the name of Morta. Adam has discovered a plot to destroy his family and it is up to him to intervene.

A former pupil of Victoria Primary and Belfast High School, Debbie wrote stories of mystery and suspense from an early age.

A graduate of Theology at Trinity College, Cambridge, she honed her craft during a series of writing classes led by author Bernie McGill.

Formerly Head of Religious Studies in Sperrin Integrated College, Magherafelt, Debbie is currently taking a career break to work full time as an author.

She is a regular contributor on BBC Radio Ulster’s ‘Kerry McClean Show’ and lives in Portstewart with her husband and daughter.
