Assemblyman Swann issued his call after he received a written response to a Stormont question on passenger numbers using Ballymoney station.

Mr Swann asked the Minister for Regional Development to detail the passenger numbers using Ballymoney Station in the year ending 31 March 2013 and how that compares with the year ending 31 March 2011.

In the Minister’s response to Mr Swann, the figures showed that in 2010/11, some 269,961 people used the station compared to 318,678 in 2012/13 – an increase of 18 per cent.

Mr Swann added: “These statistics prove the growing popularity of the Ballymoney station and I urge Translink to give a guarantee the company will invest in the future of the station.

“The rail passengers of the region have clearly demonstrated their faith in the station. Now it is time for Translink to respond in kind,” said the North Antrim UUP MLA.
