Security alert was ‘an elaborate hoax’

Army Technical Officers were called to the Ballynure Road on Wednesday morning (September 11) following the discovery of a suspicious object.

The road was closed to traffic for a time and a number of residents were evacuated from their homes.

The object was examined by ATO and the incident was declared “an elaborate hoax”.

The road was reopened to traffic and people were able to return to their homes.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about who may have been responsible for the hoax to contact them at Newtownabbey station on 0845 600 8000.
