Seminar sheds light on recovery of debt

An encouraging number of local business representatives attended the latest in the series of vital business seminars being delivered by Larne Development Forum and supported by Larne Borough Council and LEDCOM.

The topic was ‘credit control, debt recovery and insolvency’, one which chairman of Larne Development Forum, Cllr Martin Wilson, described as particularly useful in today’s economic climate.

“In these days of economic difficulty, cash flow has become - to an even greater extent - the lifeblood of small businesses,” said Mr Wilson.

“It is vital for business survival that invoices get paid quickly. The rise in the number of business insolvencies in Northern Ireland in recent times has been one of the inevitable and unpalatable results of the economic recession. We are privileged today to have speakers with expertise to deal with these subjects,” he said.

The speakers were Angela Brady of Brady Solicitors who has considerable experience in various contractual matters, debt recovery and commercial litigation. She was elected to the Council of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce in June, 2008 until June, 2011. In October, 2011 she was appointed to the committee of the Belfast City Branch of the Federation of Small Businesses.

The other speaker was Darren Bowman of McClean & Co Insolvency Practitioners, based in Belfast, who process an average of over 90 insolvency and recovery cases per annum and have a present case load of over 300.

Further business seminars are planned for Friday, May 18 (Dealing effectively with banks) and Friday, June 22 (Effective Public Relations). To book your place at these free events please contact LEDCOM 028 2827 0742 or [email protected]
