September start for street change

Ground breaking proposals to change the streetscape of Ballymena town centre are to begin taking shape from September.

An update to councillors, last week, on the Public Realm Scheme revealed that plans have now been passed by planners and the procurement for the contractor is complete with the contractor due to be on site by September.

The £4m scheme, which will change the streetscape of the town’s four core streets - Ballymoney Street, Broughshane Street, Church Street and Wellington Street, should be completed by November, next year, the meeting was told.

Plans also include a one-way system for Thomas Street.

The Mayor, Cllr Audrey Wales said she understood that only “short pieces” of a street would be worked on at a time during the scheme which would ease disruption.
