SERC students are honoured

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) apprentices Daniel Graham and Andy Smyth and part-time student Paul Wallace were celebrating after receiving awards at the prestigious annual Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) Student Awards, which took place at Corrs Corner Hotel in Newtownabbey.

The students took home the Level 2 and Level 3 awards respectively with Paul taking the Level 5 award. The two-day IRTE Skills Challenge celebrates and recognises the technicians that keep the country moving. The competition aims to encourage and reward academic excellence within the commercial vehicle field.

Daniel is currently working for Tank-Safe Solutions, Lisburn whilst Andy is currently employed with Scania Trucks, Larne. The students study the Motor Heavy Vehicle course at the SERC’s Lisburn campus.

Award winner Daniel said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive my award. I put in a lot of hard work throughout the course and I would like to thank my tutors who provided me with a lot of help and support throughout my studies.”

Andy added: “I’m really proud of my achievement and it’s very rewarding knowing that all our hard work has paid off.”

James McClure, Heavy Motor Vehicle Lecturer shared his delight: “We are really proud of the students. They are a credit to the industry and to SERC.”
