SERC’s international strategy praised

The funding will give SERC the opportunity to develop their existing links with Toyama National College of Technology, Japan, and a new partnership with King Mongkuts Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang, Thailand.

To commence the programme, Professor Ishihara, President of Toyama National College of Technology, Japan, this week visited SERC to discuss establishing collaborative staff exchange projects with SERC to share knowledge and expertise.

Over the next two years SERC will be sharing their expertise in the areas of active learning and industry engagement with Toyama National College, whilst receiving reciprocal training in robotics.

Minister Farry said: “I congratulate SERC on their achievement in successfully securing funding under Erasmus+ and for being the only further education college in the UK to be awarded this funding.

”I am encouraged to see the funding will go towards supporting the development of international links and collaboration with institutes in Japan and Thailand. We are facing greater global competition at all levels and we need to take every opportunity to share and learn from each other in the field of education which is why I am fully supportive of our further and higher education sectors developing international networks.”

SERC Principal and Chief Executive Ken Webb said: “SERC’s international strategy is to seek opportunities through the development of sustainable global partnerships to develop lifelong learning opportunities for staff to meet economic and workforce needs.

“Our partnership with Toyama National College will enable us to do just that,” he added.
