Set for Theatre of Dreams

Niall received confirmation on Christmas morning that he will be mascot for Manchester United’s final home game of the season against Swansea.

Eight-year-old Niall has overcome severe difficulties to pursue his sporting dream. He was born with ectrodactyly - a genetic disorder affecting the hands and feet.

Shortly before his first birthday Niall had both his legs amputated as a result of complications connected to the condition.

However, young Niall has put these hardships to the back of his mind and has concentrated his efforts on pursuing his Gaelic football career with Clann Eireann. Last year the Tannaghmore pupil, who uses a set of prosthetic legs, was named the club’s Most Improved Under Eight Player.

As well as boasting a large collection of medals for Gaelic football and school sports days, Niall is also a die-hard Manchester United fan.

Niall said: “I’m really looking forward to being mascot in May. My favourite players are Rooney and Hernandez.”

Niall’s friends in Allen Grove are Liverpool fans and he enjoys rubbing it in when the Red Devils triumph over the Reds. He also likes to compete against his pals at Fifa 12 on the PS3.

As well as going to Manchester in May, Niall will also be going to see the Paralympics in August.

His dad Mark said: “You never know. The way Niall is going he could be competing at the Paralympics himself some day.”
