The news came as part of a 24-hour effort to keep people posted about the incidents they deal with daily through the Twitter hashtag #KeepingPeopleSafe.

PSNI Cookstown reported the incident at around 3.10am, but it is unclear whether there were any arrests at this time.

Also in the town officers handed out three fixed penalty notices for driving offences.

In nearby Dungannon, police reported having to call in tactical support group officers to deal with an incident in town, and also enlisting the help of youth outreach workers to deal with youths drinking near Tesco.

Over the course of the 24-hour exercise the PSNI as a whole received 1,579 calls for service, had 50 people in custody, looked for 38 missing people, dealt with several breaches of electronic tags and charged two men with drugs offences.

Some calls were less serious than others.

“Just received a 999 call, male singing “Hello, is it me you’re looking for”, not believed to be Lionel Ritchie. Hindering #KeepingPeopleSafe,” they said on Twitter.

Today (Saturday) the force revealed it is recruiting for a number of administrative positions to which it is inviting people in Mid Ulster to apply.
