Sewerage scheme planned

A FOUR million pounds scheme to improve the sewerage infrastructure in Londonderry is to be carried out over the coming months.

Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) has announced that it will be carrying out essential work in and around the City, to improve infrastructure and increase capacity in the Quay Route Trunk Sewer, the main sewer serving the Cityside area.

It will facilitate planned and future development within the City as well as reducing localised 'out of sewer' flooding in the sewerage network.

NI Water have agreed the programming of this work in close liaison with DRD Roads Service and PSNI. Derry City Council have also received a presentation on this scheme and the benefits it will bring to the City.

Phase 1 of the work involves pipe laying from Craigavon Bridge along the Expressway to Queen's Quay Pumping Station.

In order to minimise the disruption to traffic flows to and from the city centre, the work will be carried out at night.
