SF: Safety Wardens needed in Crumlin

Crumlin Sinn Féin Councillor Annemarie Logue has called on Antrim Council to take whatever action is necessary to ensure Community Safety Warden services are maintained in the area.

PCSP members have been informed that current funding for the Community Warden service in the Crumlin area is due to expire in 2014,” she said.

“An appeal for funding to Justice Minister, David Ford was rejected.

“The response from the Department of Justice was less than sympathetic, suggesting either PCSP fund the wardens themselves or work in conjunction with Antrim Council to sustain this initiative.

“Since the Community Wardens were first introduced into Crumlin there has been a substantial decrease in anti-community behaviour - confirmed by PSNI figures presented at PCSP meetings.

“I have been contacted by a number of residents voicing concern at the prospect of losing this vital community service.

“Their visibility and responsiveness was both welcome and reassuring in terms of community safety.

“I am calling for a united voice across the spectrum.”
