SF take Bann seat

NEWLY elected Sinn Fein councillor Ciaran Archibald says he will be focusing on the regeneration of the Coleraine Borough in his work as a councillor.

Archibald, a father of four, came second in polling for the Bann ward, behind the DUP’s Adrian McQuillan.

“I am really delighted to be elected.

“I have put a lot of hard work into the campaign and I hope now that we can work as a unit in Council to bring jobs to the area and bring about a regeneration.”

The Ringsend man says he will also focus on social regeneration and education in Council.

“Out on the doorsteps it was clear that people were worried about jobs, the 9 to 5 Monday to Friday jobs that pay mortgages, education was also an issue. Our young people are coming out of university with huge debts and no jobs to go into.”

Archibald also acknowledged former Sinn Fein councillor Billy Leonard who he says paved the way for him in politics: “I think we have to acknowledge his contribution, he paved the way for me and it will certainly make my task easier.”
