Shaerf Drive area forgotten - Mayor

MAYOR of Craigavon Carla Lockhart has vowed to return a forgotten area of Lurgan to its former glory.

While on her travels as Mayor, Councillor Carla Lockhart had been approached by residents about the state of the Shaerf Drive area and the need for a clean up.

Councillor Lockhart said: “Having been approached by numerous residents living in the area I have taken up the mantle to have the area in question cleaned up. It is in an unacceptable state with overgrown hedges, weeds and a protruding fence from a derelict factory.

“Having visited the area to investigate it more extensively I was shocked at the state of the area and have subsequently had a meeting with Road Service who have given an undertaking to pay particular attention to the area and have it sprayed with weed killer.

“They will also ensure that the fencing and trees protruding onto the footpath which is causing a major health and safety issue is dealt with and removed.”

She added: “Additionally the Department for Social Development are under an obligation to maintain the grass area at the end of Shaerf Drive and I will be calling on them again to deal with this area that is particularly overgrown at this time.

“It is time for this area to be returned to its former glory and I will be endeavouring to ensure this happens in the weeks ahead.”
