Shakespeare in the Park returns to Carrick

Shakespeare will be returning to Shaftesbury Park in Carrickfergus next Friday (July 20) with a performance of The Merchant of Venice.

The bard's great courtroom drama is being brought to life in the alfresco setting by international award-winning company, Illyria.

Gates will open at 6.30pm, when the audience can enjoy a performance from the Martello Jazz Band before the performance begins at 7.30pm.

Previous years have seen the enchanting venue host a variety of Shakespearean works, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, and Comedy of Errors.

Now in its 27th year, Illyria has delighted audiences all over the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, France, the United States and Canada, performing some of the most popular productions on offer.

Visitors are encouraged to bring along a picnic and rug or low backed seating.

Tickets cost £3 and are available from Carrickfergus Visitor Information Centre, or by calling 028 9335 8222.

Admission is free for under 16s, who must be accompanied by an adult.
