Shankill in joint initiative

The funding is through the Northern Ireland Rural Development Council, to employ a part-time Community Development Officer for the ‘Understanding Our Neighbours’ project.

Participants from both communities are invited to attend a series of workshops at venues within both communities, to explore and learn about our shared history and to understand and appreciate each other’s culture and identity. A series of historical site visits will also be included in the programme.

Following the success of a pilot programme which held earlier this year, the project will continue to promote community cohesion between the two communities – unionist and nationalist in Lurgan.
