Sheep breeders aidchildren’s charity

The event was organised by the Kennedy family of Mileview and Skilganaban Lleyns and attended by more than 300 people.

The sum was presented to the charity at Ballymena Market on Saturday .

Open day started with a welcome from Andrew Kennedy, chairman of the Lleyn Club, to fellow Lleyn Breeders and visitors from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.He then introduced Eileen McCloskey, from Cafre, who gave a very informative talk about maternal sheep breeds.

Everyone was then invited to go on the farm walk viewing the Saler Cattle, followed by

the “sheep shower” demonstration by John Holden, from Cairncastle.

Andrew then continued the farm walk of sheep with many potential breeders showing a keen interest in the Lleyn breed.

At the end of the farm walk Robert and Wilton Goligher from Eglinton gave a sheepdog demonstration which proved to be very popular with spectators.

There was plenty going on throughout the day with trade stands, stock judging and guessing the weight of lambs with lots of informatlon and pictures on display showing the main characteristics and attributes showcasing the popularity of the Lleyn breed.

After the barbecue, auctioneer Rodney Clarke conducted the charity auction and with his wit and humour and had all the bidders winking and waving their arms to secure their lots.

Andrew then thanked all those in attendance, the sponsors and those who generously donated throughout the day. .and help make the day a great success.

Founder member Fiona Cunningham thanked the Kennedy family for hosting the open day.
