Shock after hammer attack

LAST week's attack on two women with a hammer has been described as 'shocking'.

Police in Craigavon are appealing for witnesses following the assault in the Drumellan Gardens area shortly before 2am on the morning of Saturday, October 2.

Two women aged 22 and 24, believed to be cousins, were taken to hospital with head injuries that are not believed to be life threatening after they were attacked by a man wielding a hammer.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear at Craigavon Court on Friday, October 29.

It’s understood the attack took place at a house party.

Independent councillor and Deputy Mayor Kieran Corr described the attack as “shocking”.

He said: “The use of any sort of weapon has to be condemned. People have to think about the consequences and repercussions of their actions. These two young women could have very well been killed.”
