Shock at Dunloy man’s death in Chicago

THE death of a 42-year-old former Dunloy man has shocked the community in the village.

Richard Martin is understood to have died following a heart attack while he was working in Chicago.

Initially, there were fears that Mr. Martin had been the victim of a hit-and-run but Fr. Aidan Brankin, parish priest in Dunloy, said he had died of a heart attack.

The single man was found collapsed on the side of the road and at first it was feared he had been hit by a car.

However, Fr. Brankin said this was not the case.

The family of Mr. Martin are now preparing to repatriate him to Dunloy, Fr. Brankin said.

He said: “Richard had been working in the States for a number of years. His parents are both deceased so his brothers and sisters are bringing him home for burial.”

A source in Dunloy said that Mr. Martin had been away from Dunloy for some time.

“He is part of a respected family and the sympathy of everyone in the village is with them. He was only 42-years-of age which makes it even more difficult to take in.”
