Mayobridge is a very young club and they would not be expected to beat Banbridge who have been around for over one hundred years. But that is exactly what happened.

This was the first leg of the Junior Cowdy quarter-final and Colin’s team travelled to Mayobridge looking to win at least two games out of four.

The vastly experienced pairing of James Bryson and Dominic Quinn got the ball rolling with a 6 and 5 win. They obviously had done their homework and it paid off.

Darren Barker and Brian Knox could count themselves unfortunate to lose by one hole. This close game could have gone either way.

The third game was never close. Gerry Blevins and Victor McNeill lost 8 and 6. That was not expected. What went wrong, nobody knows.

Sean McGreevey and Robert Haire played in the final game and they also lost, this time by 4 and 3.

It was a great result for Mayobridge but not so good for Banbridge.

But it could all be reversed in the second leg next Sunday at Banbridge. That could be worth watching, no doubt about it.
