Shock over Israeli raid on peace flotilla

A COUNCILLOR has claimed he was 'horrified' at the recent Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla which left nine people dead.

Councillor Michael McGoldrick added that he was ‘totally shocked’ and supported the idea of bringing aid to Gaza.

Councillor Johnny McGibbon said his party, Sinn Fein, would support aid being given to Gaza.

He added that it was a tragic set of circumstances and that pressure should be brought on the Israeli government to stop the blockade.

Alderman Stephen Moutray said Israel had been bombed for years from Gaza and they had a right to defend themselves.

He added that when the Israeli soldiers landed they were attacked with iron bars and cudgels. “There are two sides to every story,” he commented.
