Shop front facelift

LURGAN'S shop fronts are in line for a facelift thanks to a grants scheme from Lurgan Forward and Craigavon Council.

They have awarded 15 local businesses with Letters of Offer to improve their shop fronts.

The improvement scheme aims to improve shop fronts in Lurgan town centre as a means of supporting the growth of local businesses, improving the local environment and raising the image of the town centre amongst locals and visitors.

Funding for the scheme is being provided by Craigavon Borough Council through a Voluntary Business Improvement District and administered by Lurgan Forward.

Areas of the town that will benefit from the scheme will include businesses from Avenue Road down through High Street, Church Place and William Street. All those who received a Letter of Offer are encouraged to match the funding before March 31.

Lurgan Forward Vice Chair, Stephen Moore believes this is another positive step forward for the town: “Lurgan Forward has worked well, on a cross community basis and alongside local MLAs and council officials, to encourage the take up of this scheme.

"It has had previous successes and will complement the look of those businesses in the town who have already received THI conservation funding.”

According to Lurgan Forward shop front improvement schemes have a track record of making a big impact on the appearance of a town centre. They contribute to people’s first impression of a town and their condition affects a town’s image.

High quality shop fronts make a town feel more welcoming to locals and visitors, improve its image, contribute towards a stronger sense of identity, and, importantly, encourage a greater number of shopping visits.

Stephen added: “Lurgan is now beginning to successfully leverage core funding from Government Departments which is providing Lurgan, and its traders and residents, with a great opportunity to help the town regenerate into the future”.
