Shopkeeper outraged after thief steals charity cash

A GLENGORMLEY shopkeeper has spoken of his heartache after a thief entered his store a few days before Christmas and stole a charity box containing money collected for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

David French, who runs Face Value on the Antrim Road, discovered the box he kept beside his till was missing after another local business owner revealed how they found empty charity boxes hidden in the toilets at their premises.

It’s believed the same thief may have stolen the boxes from another Glengormley business on Thursday of last week.

David told the Times: “It’s hard to take someone stealing from a shop, but to steal from a charity and one that helps children is just unbelievable.

“It is stealing money directly from those children who are in desperate need of care and are very sick. Whoever did this is low life scum, there is no other way of describing it.”

It’s believed the thief was caught on CCTV footage, which the police are now examining in a bid to track down the culprit.

David added: “The box would have probably been a quarter full. I was devastated when I realised the box had gone missing, it’s hard to take, particularly at this time of year.”
