Marie Edmonds (61), Ardowen, Craigavon, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court. She admitted stealing ham valued at £2.50 on October 1 last year and three other offences which happened on October 15. These were the theft of cheese, valued at £2.35, a bra valued at £10 and a diffuser and Christmas items worth £6.64.

The court heard that on October 15 she was detected stealing cheese in Sainsbury’s and she was recognised as the person who stole ham on a previous occasion. A search of her carrier bags also revealed a bra she had taken from Dunnes and goods stolen from Home Bargains. When interviewed she said: “I admit it. I’m not lying. It’s just stupid nonsense.” A defending barrister said she suffered mental health issues. The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.
