TP Sheehy, owner of Sheehy’s Cookstown welcomed the ‘Small Business Saturday’ campaign which is encouraging shoppers to come out and support local traders this coming weekend and buy local.

Mr Sheehy said: “I think it is a great iniative, we need plenty more of them to drive people to the high street rather than the out of town shopping centres. It’s where most of the independents operate out of and we have been the life and blood of this town for more than 100 years and all of a sudden we’re struggling because of the footfall on the main street. It is a great iniative and we hope it kicks off on one of the busiest days of the year on Saturday and we’ll hopefully get a good dry day for it.”

Talking about the unique service which Cookstown town centre traders offer, Mr Sheehy said: “We have a great variety here in Cookstown, lots of independent retailers who ogger something a little bit different than your average high street with your national companies. We offer a great customer service which you don’t get, you don’t get one-on-one time with the big retailers, we spend time with the customers and offer them advice.”
