Shopping trip led to ban

A trip to the local shop led to a Lurgan man getting a six month driving ban last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Anthony Kearney (44) of Lurgantarry was fined £150 and given six points for driving without insurance on January 23. On the tot up points system he was banned for six months.

For taking a car without the consent of the owner he was fined £50 and banned for six months and for not having a vehicle test certificate he was fined £50.

He was seen driving on the Antrim Road, Lurgan, and he told police he believed he was insured for the car which was owned by his partner.

She said that she did not give him permission to drive the car.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said Kearney had taken the car to go to the local shop.
