Shoreline Festival line-up unveiled

THE council has developed a full programme of events for this year's Shoreline Festival, which will take place at Loughshore Park, Jordanstown from August 28 to 30.

Details of this year’s festival programme were unveiled at the council’s monthly meeting on Monday evening (July 26).

The lengthy list of activities and shows on offer over the three days includes a family funzone, CityBeat Search for a Star contest, various exhibitions and musical entertainment from a number of popular bands and individual performers. Included in the line-up are concerts featuring Pink and Lady Gaga tribute acts, Conspiracy, The Big Kahuna, The Illegals and Niamh Kavanagh. The final night of the festival will close with the live Classics in the Park event and a fireworks extravaganza.

During Monday’s meeting, DUP alderman Billy Ball said that he had concerns about the suitability of Pink and Lady Gaga tribute acts appearing at the family festival, describing them as “not conducive to the borough”, and asked that his objection be recorded. No other council members appeared to have a problem with the acts. Indeed, Deputy Mayor Tommy Kirkham pointed out that around 800 people of all ages had enjoyed the Pink tribute act during the recent Twelfth celebrations in the Rathcoole estate. The inclusion of both acts in the line-up was noted.
