Shot putter Andrew to compete at UK School Games in Gateshead

A COLERAINE Inst pupil is proving that he's got talent when it comes to throwing the shot putt.

Andrew Richardson (15) (pictured left) has been selected to represent Northern Ireland at the UK School Games in September.

After winning the Northern Ireland and Ulster Age Athletics Championships, Richard went on to the Interprovincial Athletics Championships in Tullamore where he finished third with a personal best of 12.82 metres last month.

Richard now has to prepare himself for the UK School Games, which will be held in Gateshead.

“I am training a lot at the minute, “ admitted Andrew.

“My training involves weight based training like rowing and swimming, but it will be worth it to compete at the Uk School Games.”

Times Sport wishes Andrew all the best!
