Shots fired over open coffin on the streets of Lagmore

Shots were fired over the coffin of a Dunmurry man, Liam Mulhern, who died after collapsing in Maghaberry Prison last Monday (October 27).

The 30-year-old, who is said to have had connections with dissident republicans, was taken to Craigavon Hospital where he died on Thursday afternoon.

Images have appeared on social media which show a masked gunman firing shots over the open coffin as other masked men salute. The incident happened in the Lagmore area when an open coffin was draped in a tricolour flag on Sunday night before his funeral took place on Monday.

Investigations are under way into the death of the prisoner.

The PSNI is investigating the circumstances of the death. The Prison Ombudsman has also launched an investigation. Solicitor Kevin Winters said: “The family need immediate and full disclosure about the circumstances of Liam’s collapse, treatment and death while in the care of the Prison Service.”
