Show dates clash for 30s BanbridgeFarming Society

A 1930 meeting of Banbridge Farming Society heard the Down Committee of Agriculture was asking all such societies subsidised by them to hold their 1930 shows on the same date as in 1929.

This was to avoid a clashing of dates.

They had, however, considered the fact that both Banbridge and Killyleagh societies laid claim to the first Thursday in July and had asked that a conference be called to give both an opportunity of arranging a date on which each could hold its annual show.

The committee would therefore be glad if the Banbridge Society would arrange to send representatives to said conference.

The Society was of a mind to adhere to the first Thursday in July and appointed R. J. Hale and S. J. Ardery to attend the conference.

They went on to revise the prize list.

Among other things the rules governing the Baillie Challenge Cup were referred to a committee and in the cattle section it was decided to arrange separate classes for Shorthorn premium bulls and Polled-Angus bulls.

annaclone

It was noted that the Department was giving 10 to be distributed in connection with the Annaclone Cow-Testing Association; it was suggested the 10 best cattle likely to come forward should compete at the show.

President, Mr. Thomas B. Wallace said they had been informed that if Sir Frederick Cleaver was approached with a view to allowing a reduction in the rent of the grounds they would be favourably received.
