Calling country music fans from Tyrone and beyond! Popular TG4 country music series Glór Tíre is back on our screens and Tyrone contestant Lauren McCrory is making her debut in the concert episodes of the series on Tuesday, February 28 at 9.30pm.

Filmed as a live gig in The Quays Bar in Galway, the episode will see Lauren take to the stage and perform “Love I Found In You” as a duet with her Glór Tíre mentor, country music star Barry Kirwan, in the hope of winning the public’s vote and progressing to the next stage of the competition and the ultimate chance of winning a prize fund of €5,000 from competition sponsor Louis Fitzgerald.

Lauren hails from Dungannon and studied Language and Linguistics at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. She is passionate about acting and being on stage, and is a member of the Craic Theatrical Group where she rehearses every weekend. A self-confessed country music superfan, she is so excited to take to the stage on Glór Tíre and is eager to win votes in order to pursue a country music career.

Lauren’s mentor, Barry Kirwan is one of the newest acts on the Irish Country Music scene. With his debut album going to the top of the charts, he is one to watch for 2017! Nominated for ‘Newcomer of the Year’ at the 2016 RTE Irish Country Music Awards, his debut solo single ‘Keep It In The Middle Of The Road’ shot to No. 1 spot on the Irish iTunes Country chart and No.2 in the UK iTunes Country chart – a foretelling of the successful career this rising star will undoubtedly have in the years ahead.  

Glór Tíre is Ireland’s only talent show to provide a platform for emerging Irish country music artists to perform in front of a national audience of over 180,000. nine new contestants from across the island of Ireland are singing their hearts out each week in the hope of winning over the public and scooping a much coveted prize of €5,000 sponsored by Louis Fitzgerald.

The series, presented by TG4’s Aoife Ní Thuairsig and Pádraig Ó Neachtain, and this year’s high profile judging panel which includes RTÉ broadcaster John Creedon, Caitríona Ní Shúilleabháin and Jo Ní Chéide as well as the Irish public. Weekly episodes feature the contestants singing both alone and accompanied by their mentor. Mentors this year include household names in the Irish country music scene Mike Denver, Robert Mizzell, Brendan Shine, Louise Morrissey, Keith and Lorraine, Johnny Brady, Barry Kirwan and Gerry Guthrie.

Glór Tíre airs on Tuesdays, 9.30pm on TG4. The show is leading up to the elimination programmes and the much anticipated final, which will air on Tuesday, April 11.  Lauren and her mentor Barry hope to be among the final three contestants, battling it out to be crowned the 2017 Glór Tíre winner. In the elimination programmes, contestants can be saved by the judging panel but in the concert episodes and the final, they ultimately depend on the public’s vote.
