Showcasing Dervock

The event will take place this Saturday, March 19th and comes in the week when the Ministerial Advisory Group for Architecture and the Built Environment (MAG) described recent visits to Dervock as “inspirational”.

MAG advises the Minister for Culture Arts and Leisure on the implementation of the Architecture and Built Environment Policy.

Chair of MAG, Mr Arthur Acheson, said that he and his colleague had been overwhelmed by the knowledge of Dervock people about their local area and its history, geography, civic pride and connections to the wider world.

Now, the local community has created a brand new event to capitalise on the rich history of the area.

Peter Thompson of Dervock and District History group said: “I appeal to every group operating in the village to come together and showcase their achievements, let us show that Dervock stands united in the achievements of her people, past and present

“The idea behind this event is to invite people from outside our community and showcase the achievements of the Dervock people past and present, from social to historical and after the Ministerial Advisory Group listened to the arguments put forward it was agreed that Dervock has plenty to offer.

“There will also be a chance for visitors to visit and see Dervock’s “Jewel in the Crown” our historical Trafalgar Windows and to view many of the historical features in and around the village.

“There will be various people on hand on the day to explain our social, sporting and historical achievements. “If you are thinking of organising an event in the hall, the 19th is an opportunity to come along and see what facilities there is available. This is a golden opportunity to show visitors what we have to offer, please come out and support this venture.”
