Showcasing the 1914-1918 War

THE Bushmills and the Great War exhibition opens in the Community Centre on Monday, July 1 at 10 a.m. running for two weeks.

Opening hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. A small admission charge will apply with all proceeds going to the Robert Quigg VC statue fund.

The organisers say that a number of items hitherto unseen will be on show which they say will arouse considerable comment.

They also say that some important visitors will be coming to the opening and are appealing for strong support from locals.

According to one of the organisers, Mr Robert Thompson, the last few meetings of the organising committee hae been successful and a number of organisations are involved in running events.

Mr Thompson says it is his understanding that the proposal to erect a monument to Robert Quigg is “going down well” with Bushmills people and he is hoping that those attending the exhibition will help raise funds to honour the war hero who is buried at Billy Parish Church.

“The exhibition will enable us to speak to a lot of people whose assistance we would value in organising events,” Mr Thompson said.

The event is regarded as one of the best in the country.
