Sign up for a call that will make a real difference

A telephone-based befriending programme is encouraging Carrick’s vulnerable and older residents to sign up to receive the service.

Good Morning East Antrim supports people to remain independent in their own home and local community.

It provides daily calls and acts as an alert service should a call be unanswered. The service aims to overcome social isolation, enhance health and wellbeing and reduce the fear of crime.

It also provide engagement opportunities through social outings, befriending visits and lunch clubs, helping older people remain active in the local community and build social networks.

Referrals for the service can be made from any member of the community.

Good Morning East Antrim is a partnership between Good Morning Carrickfergus and Good Morning Larne and is part of the Mid and East Antrim Agewell Partnership (MEEAP) Ageing Well & Reaching Out Project which has received funding support from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Out: Connecting Older People Programme and the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.

The organisers of the service are also hoping that Times’ readers will consider giving up some of their time to become volunteers.

A spokesperson said: “To help us achieve our goal of providing better support and services to older and vulnerable adults in our communities, we need more volunteers especially within the Carrick area.

“Volunteering is an excellent way of becoming an active citizen and championing the needs of older people.

“And with full training provided and travel costs covered, all we need is your time and commitment.”
