Silly number plates raised £10m

ULSTER car owners forked out £10m over the last seven years for silly number plates but all the money went directly to the London Transport Ministry rather than the local DoE, it has been revealed.

An unbelievable £9,802,871 was paid for “cherished plates” between 2005 and 2011 by people in Northern Ireland.

Enviroment Minister alex Attwood revealed the the revenue generated through the sale of cherished number plates in response to an Assembly Question.

But he noted: “As vehicle licensing is an excepted matter, the revenue is remitted direct to the Department for Transport.”
