Simon has got his finger on the pulse

A LURGAN entrepreneur is hoping to conquer Ireland and then the world from his living room.

WhereistheCraic.com has been established by Lurgan man Simon Quinn.

It promotes the best entertainment from right across Northern Ireland from charity events to sports tournaments to nights on the town.

Simon who used to work in investment banking said he came up with the idea after working for a local charity. He left his job two years ago to return to Lurgan and work with Driving Kills, a local road safety charity.

"We found it difficult to promote ourselves in the beginning," he said. "So I came up with the website and the idea is to have everything in the one place. All charities can list their events for free and we are working to get most schools and sports institutions listed on the site for free as well."

The site contains various categories including eating out, sports, bars and clubs and charities.

"People can also post videos on line so that they can share them across the world," Simon continued.

"It's a community service which we are hoping will promote internal tourism first, the likes of people heading for a day out in Portrush or a night out in Belfast.

"And then we hope to develop it and appeal to tourists visiting the country. "There is a lot happening out there and we aim to have everything on our website in one easy to access location.

"We want to promote the idea of a community and help to bring people together and break down some of the barriers in our society." Simon has been developing the website for the past 18 months and launched the venture last week.

The 31-year-old is working from his Union Street home, already employing three staff and looking to expand.

"I have travelled the world and the idea of having a bit of craic has always been something that is part of our culture, no matter where you are in the world.

"Our plan is to use our website as a sign post to some of the best craic happening across Northern Ireland.

"We hope to have three other offices with headquarters in Lurgan, but it is early days at the moment. "I'm working from home at it's a bit hectic, but the early signs are good and we are hoping to move into commercial offices soon.

"In the first week we had over 500 visits, which is good for a website launch."
