Simpson staying in bed for fundraiser

UPPER Bann MP David Simpson is looking forward to his constituency-wide bed push on behalf of the Mandeville Cancer Unit at Craigavon Area Hospital.

Mr Simpson will be calling into Banbridge during the two-day event, planned for September 7-8.

“I have been a frequent visitor to the Mandeville Unit at Craigavon Hospital and have been a keen supporter of the magnificent work that staff do and the wonderful care they provide,” he said.

“This two-day bed push across Upper Bann has been planned in order to raise funds for a therapy chair for the Mandeville Unit.

“Many of my Assembly and Council colleagues and party staff and members will be joining me for all or part of the event that will cover the three towns, Banbridge, Lurgan and Portadown.

“We have already been carrying out a few practice events in private and we are all looking forward to this event.

“I have no doubt that even in the straitened economic times we are in currently that the people of Upper Bann will show their support for the Mandeville Cancer Unit. I also want to express my thanks to some local companies who have already agreed to sponsor this event and I hope that we can raise enough to get a therapy chair for the Unit.”

He added, “Donations are already coming trickling in and I am hopeful that together we can achieve a good total for what is a truly exceptional cause. If anyone wants to donate they can do so at any of the three DUP constituency offices - Thomas Street in Portadown; High Street in Lurgan; or Rathfriland Street in Banbridge.”
