To quote Gareth Malone: “Singing bonds people together, exercises a range of muscles and makes you feel happy.

“The camaraderie of communal singing is of benefit to people - you don’t get that when listening to a CD no matter what style of music. I think it’s important that people feel free to sing and that there is somewhere for them to be heard. People can feel very isolated and singing is an excellent way to combat that.”

Apart from the obvious social benefits, singing and being part of a choir can give you a sense of achievement, increased confidence, health benefits and the chance to learn new skills.

This has inspired local woman Annie Sharkey to form a new choir which will practice in Ballymoney.

The choir will be lead by Annie - a very talented and motivated lady - who has been a music teacher for many years.

She experience both teaching in schools and giving private singing and piano lessons.

Annie will be ably assisted by her daughter Lorna who will be accompanist for the choir.

The new choir would also love to welcome members from the Coleraine and Triangle area too so please come along and get involved!

With an ethos of keeping things interesting and fun, the music will be a mixture of modern and classical music.

Annie intends to work towards some public performances and perhaps some competitions in the future.
