Mr Mullan said: “There are major concerns in the community about the activities of loyalist armed groups, particularly the UDA in Larne and the surrounding areas.

“I met with Gary Hewitt from the Police Ombudsman’s Office to talk about policing issues in East Antrim. I raised concerns about a number of specific incidents carried out by loyalists that I believe warrant investigation from the Ombudsman.

“Some of the topics raised were band parades, ongoing drugs problems and the continued loyalist paramilitary activity in East Antrim. We also asked the Ombudsman to re-investigate a number of cases in the Larne area that still have not been resolved.

“This is part of Sinn Féin’s commitment to holding the police to account.”
