Sinn Fein’s stance on Maze is slammed

A local TUV representative has slammed Sinn Fein for their stance on the redevelopment of the former Maze Prison site after Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, said the scheme would not go ahead without a deal on the future of the Peace and Reconciliation Centre.

The Centre was put on hold last month when the DUP withdrew their support. In response, the Deputy First Minister has now said the redevelopment of the massive site will not go ahead.

“The anticipated development of the site can only proceed on the basis of the honouring of the commitments that have been made,” he told the Assembly.

His comments have been criticised by Samuel Morrison from Lagan Valley TUV, who said Mr McGuinness’ stance was “unacceptable”.

He continued: “The Conflict Centre has been rejected by innocent victims the length and breadth of Northern Ireland and has zero support within the unionist community.

“McGuinness’ comments are a timely reminder that Sinn Fein are not in government to improve the lives of the people of Northern Ireland but rather to destroy the state.”
