‘Sip for Stroke’ funds call

The Stroke Association charity is encouraging people to host a “Sip for Stroke” event to help raise awareness of stroke and funds to support local stroke survivors.

There are around 34,000 people living with the effects of stroke across Northern Ireland with approximately 10,000 being left with aphasia, a devastating communication disability caused by stroke.

The Stroke Association is the only charity in Northern Ireland and the UK solely dedicated to combating stroke and supporting survivors, offering valuable advice, information and support through its services, research, campaigning and awareness activities.

Ellie McCallion, who suffered a stroke at the age of 26, said: “When I first had my stroke, I could not swallow tea at all, let alone make it. However, I received lots of support and my swallowing is almost normal, drinking tea is now a pleasure. I am so grateful to the Stroke Association for everything they did for me. “

Fundraisers can include: a coffee morning; wine tasting evening or ‘pop and party’, a fizzy drink disco party. Email [email protected] or call 9050 8020.
