Six convicted

SIX people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Marian Mulbery (56) of Bloomfield Park, Londonderry claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling 11,755 while failing to declare capital. She was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of 103.

Margaret Kelly (54) of Dunmore Gardens, Londonderry claimed Income Support totalling 2,708 while working. She was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of 67.

Margaret Devine (60) of Knockdara Park, Londonderry claimed Income Support totalling 2,487 while failing to declare capital. She was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of 73.

John Nash (56) of St Eithnes Park, Londonderry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling 8,684 while failing to declare capital. He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of 64.

James Poole (49) of The Cottages, Coshquin claimed Income Support totalling 4,163 while failing to declare employment. He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of 58.

Joanne McGowan (37) of Shepherds Grove, Londonderry claimed Income Support totalling 15,547 while failing to declare employment. She was given 100 hours community service and 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of 67.

All are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
