Skateboard stunts at Carrick war memorial '˜scandalous'

Skateboarders have been slammed for using Carrick's war memorial at Marine Gardens for stunts.

PUP representative Jim McCaw described the activities of teenagers abusing the town centre cenotaph as “absolutely scandalous and disrespectful”.

“It was especially upsetting for the older veterans who came to view the new UDR memorial which had been unveiled on Saturday,” said Mr. McCaw.

“It was pointed out that there is a skate park at the leisure centre. When asked if they knew what a cenotaph is, they said they knew nothing about it.”

He called for the PSNI to patrol the vicinity and for CCTV at the adjacent children’s playground to be improved and extended to include the war memorial and monument.

“I would appeal to parents to educate their children on the meaning of a cenotaph. We were on parade just last weekend to remember our fallen.”
