Skaters to canvass Larne public

YOUNG Larne skaters are set to hold a public consultation at Broadway in a bid to raise the profile of the sport in the town.

The event, supported by the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB), will take place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, May 22 and aims to find out the public’s opinion on skating facilities. There will be a display stand and Powerpoint presentation at the bandstand

Larne councillors granted the group permission to use the bandstand at the latest meeting of the development committee.

Alderman Danny O’Connor said he was glad to see the issue of skating facilities in Larne progressing. “We have been very vociferous in the past about getting a skateboarding area for young people in the borough, as they are currently paying a fortune travelling to facilities elsewhere. Youngsters need something to focus on and I welcome this move very much.”

Councillor Mark Dunn said NEELB had shown some “stickability” on the issue and added that he was pleased to see matter being taken forward.
