Ski trip success

LISMORE students enjoyed a successful and enjoyable school ski trip to Austria.

Forty-eight pupils from years eight to 13 took to the Austrian slopes with teachers Mr Francis McVeigh, Mrs Jayne Dunne, Miss Pauline Mallon, Mr Gary Dean and Moyraverty parish priest Father Martin McAlinden.

The adventurous five-day trip began with an early morning flight to Munich, Germany, where on arrival pupils were greeted by a tour guide who accompanied them on a morning tour of the city.

Following this, students had the opportunity to browse shops and visit historical monuments before an afternoon drive to the skiing resort of Ehrwald in Austria.

The pupils enjoyed four hours of ski lessons a day with instructors Skischule Total.

The four day lessons were concluded with a competitive 500 metre race set by the Skischule. The day ended with a celebratory prize giving, where students and leaders were then awarded medals and certificates for their success.

Throughout the week Lismore students indulged in many ‘apres-ski’ activities including tobogganing, games and quizzes.

The final night was spent celebrating the overall success of the trip with an Italian themed meal in a nearby restaurant.

Overall the trip was a tremendous success, due to the organisation of ski coordinator Mr Francis McVeigh and the positive attitudes of all the Lismore pupils, which they were complimented on, both by leaders and ski instructors.

As well as learning to ski, students also developed and fostered skills such as working as a team, communication and general interpersonal skills.
