Skills required for work are showcased

The interactive exhibition, which aims to provide young people who have special needs with an insight into possible future employment opportunities, saw an overwhelming turnout from 27 educational establishments across the board’s area, alongside 28 exhibitions from work and education providers.

NEELB chief executive Shane McCurdy explained: “This exhibition plays a crucial role in the lives of these young people, who are moving from education to work life. This gives them the opportunity to explore further the career possibilities when they leave school at the end of this year. I would like to wish the young people present today all the very best for the future and to always remember that anything is achievable.”

East Antrim schools and educational establishments taking part included Ballyclare Secondary School, Carrickfergus College, Glengormley High School, Monkstown Community High School, Ulidia Integrated College, Hill Croft School, Jordanstown Schools, Roddensvale School, Rosstulla School, and Thornfield House School.

The Northern Regional College showcased hairdressing and beauty, catering, health and social care, brickwork and marketing.

Special guest at this year’s showcase event, 17-year-old Luke Hutchinson, who is now studying for a sports degree at the NRC, urged his peers to believe that they can achieve anything.
