Slaughtneil celebrate Féile Charn Tóchair

The day was helped greatly by the beautiful weather on the day and was a fitting end to yet another busy and enjoyable Féile with events and activities for all interests and ages.

The walk of the Carn to view the ‘Archaeological Aspects at Carntogher’ lead to an interesting discovery of a new bronze age cashel at the top of the mountain. The Treasure hunt and family quiz provided entertainment for all the family while Coláiste Charn Tóchair delivered a full programme of activities for over 160 children during the two week period and proving yet again its increasing popularity within the local area and further afield.

Dr Charlie Dillon delivered an informative and interesting talk on surnames at Kilcronaghan.

‘Rith An Carn/Run the Carn’ recorded its highest number of entrants since it started three years ago with almost 50 runners taking part. This year’s winners were Alec Brennan and Eílis Ní Chaiside.

The run was followed by a BBQ and music at An Carn Centre and the large crowd experienced a great afternoon in the sun.

The committee of Coiste Forbartha Charn Tóchair would like to take the opportunity to thank a range of people who helped to make our festival possible.

Firstly to funders Foras na Gaeilge and Magherafelt District Council festival grant who provided the much needed funds to deliver the events. A big thank you to all the dedicated and hard working volunteers and staff who offered their help when it was most needed throughout the festival.

Thank you is also passed to sponsors – Sportsworld Magherafelt and Tommy McGrath Menswear Maghera who provided the prizes for the race winners.
